The land of Aethelis was once empty. In these ancient lands there were Guardians, sent to protect the Homelands from human alterations. The Guardians used to flourish, feeding from a connection with the Alphas of the wolf packs. In return for their service, the Guardians blessed the packs with safety from the outside, making Aethelis truly a haven for their kind.
However, the wolves grew cocky about this safety. They began to push their limits, striking out against other lands for territory. The resulting wars cost many lives, and those that remained fled the bloodstained land, unable to part with the memories of the horrible battles that were waged.
Several years after the Great War, the Guardians began to weaken, and soon they began to fear that they would die if they didn't have a life source to connect to. The Guardians prayed to their gods to find a way to bring the wolves back to the Homeland, to re-forge these bonds.
There were many guardians of many species, and the smaller animals fell first, their spirits fading into the air and their intelligence waning. Rather than death they became normal animals, which for them was a fate more cruel than death, and so they continued to pray.
One day a wolf crossed the border of Aethelis, the Guardians all rushed to bind to her and when this wolf chose its Guardian the rest were scorned. One Guardian took the blow personally and began to hate the wolves while the rest waited. Soon Aethelis became the Homeland once more and the Guardians began to bind to the wolves as best they could. In some the connection wasn't strong at all and a full bond couldn't be formed. These wolves could not return to their Guardian status, deemed “Helpers” by the higher beings.
One young wolf, a male named Bonsai, found the hidden Guardian whom had grown to hate the wolves for his rejection. They formed a pact and Bonsai accepted his Guardian on the vow that all impure wolves would be scrubbed from the lands and wolves that had any malformations would be slaughtered.
As Bonsai and Tobias lash out, how will the packs react? Will they fall to ruin, or will they overcome the terror that awaits them should he succeed?
